Tarkett Acquires Tandus Flooring

01 October, 2012

-By Staff

Tarkett has acquired Tandus Flooring in a transaction that closed September 28. The move facilitates Tarkett’s foray into the commercial carpet business in both America and Asia Pacific; Tarkett currently offers resilient surfacing products and coordinating transitional elements. Both companies will benefit from an enhanced ability to provide their customers with a broader range of products and services. The financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.

“This acquisition is aligned with our mission to enhance our customers’ return on investment and quality of life, now offering complementary solutions in both hard and soft surfaces,” says Michel Giannuzzi, CEO, Tarkett Group. “Thanks to this strategic move, we will reinforce our position as a leading global flooring provider, extending our activities in the commercial carpet market in North America while further developing our footprint in the fast growing Asian markets.”

Tandus will operate as a separate entity within Tarkett’s North American division and will maintain current manufacturing, business operations, and routes to market. Tandus serves architects, designers, end-users, and service providers in the specified commercial market with hybrid resilient, modular carpet, and higher-end broadloom and woven products, for an annual turnover of $340 million.

“Tarkett is a true global company with sizeable exposure in high growth developing countries and this can provide Tandus with a solid base for international expansion,” says Tandus President Glen Hussmann, who will continue to manage the business. “We and Tarkett share an aligned vision of the future and have common views on innovation and how to serve the customer.  We believe this will create benefits for all of our customers.”
