Patrick Blanc's Musse du QUai in Pairs and SOA Architects' Living Tower Project proposal

The American Institute of Architects, San Francisco chapter (AIA San Francisco) and Center for Architecture + Design Gallery will present Vertical Gardens, an exhibition on view February 18-April 30 at 130 Sutter Street, Suite 600, San Francisco. The show will reflect the emergence of green roofs and walls over the last decade to combat the lack of flora in the city. Vertical farms and gardens are also being envisioned as new ways to feed local and organic foods to city dwellers.

Largely based on the principles of hydroponics, vertical gardens are mostly self-sustaining because they capture large amounts of natural sunlight and water, and use wind as an energy source. The exhibition showcases architectural models, renderings, drawings, and photographs that depict or imagine a vertical farm, urban garden, or green roof.
