Hickok Cole Architects was chosen to design the new Washington D.C. 75,000-sq.-ft. build-to-suit New York University branch, a mixed-use facility targeting LEED Gold certification. Major cities such as Paris, Florence and Shanghai host NYU semester programs, and the university has chosen D.C. as the location for its new Arts/Sciences program. The project will house five floors of dormitories, featuring four-person suites, provided with shading and privacy through an external screening system.

The dorms are visually separated from the academic areas below by a balcony that runs along the building façade, outside the reading room. An interconnecting staircase runs from the first floor student lounge to the academic areas.

The project will also house spaces for academic programs, support staff, and lobbyists.
