Students Aim to Rebuild Haiti

Feb 3, 2010

-By Adam Figman

Architecture for Humanity, the Bezos Family Foundation and Global Nomads Group have responded to the tragic earthquake in Haiti by founding StudentsRebuild.org, a Web site that offers middle and high school students worldwide the opportunity to help with the rebuilding process.

Students are being asked to form teams that raise funds for the relief effort.  They’ll also have the opportunity, through interactive video, to hold conversations with building professionals and Haitian students.  The Bezos Family Foundation will match every dollar that is raised for the cause, up to $500,000, dollar-for-dollar.

"This is an opportunity for young people here to see how they are connected to the global community and learn the real challenges of rebuilding after disaster," says Cameron Sinclair, co-founder of Architecture for Humanity, on the site.

Over the next several weeks, the Web site will offer the opportunity to share fundraising tips with others and track the teams’ progress.  At the end of the challenge, the top three money raisers will be recognized.
