The AIA announced today (March 4) the appointment of two resource architects to its staff. Simon & Associates vice president William J. Worthen, AIA, LEED AP, as the resource architect for sustainability, will work to facilitate access to resources and tools on sustainability. Kevin Fitzgerald, AIA, PMP, will collaborate with the Yong Architects Forum, National Associates Committee, the American Institute of Archtiects Students, and other organizations to enhance the association’s efforts to advance emerging professionals, which includes the development of the new AIA Center for Emerging Professionals.

“With the advent of local green building ordinances as well as state and national green building codes, design and sustainable design are merging.  The profession is in the midst of a sea change in how architecture is practiced.  In my new role, I look forward to building upon the strong base of AIA knowledge on sustainable design and construction to further develop the tools and resources every architect now needs to lead the integrated sustainable design and construction process," says William J. Worthen, AIA, LEED AP.
