Marcel Sembat High School, located in Sotteville-les-Rouen, France, has been added to and extended, with additions including an insulating green roof and a new, more efficient, layout of facilities, according to multiple reports (such as in World Architecture News and Inhabitat). French architecture firm Archi5 is working on the project.

Located next to a public park, the architecture group has designed a 12,700 sq.-meter extension that used this outdoor space and incorporated it into the school. There will be more transparency and more perspective into the surrounding public space. Certain areas of the buildings will contain sloping green roofs that should help visually integrate the structures into the adjacent park.

Also included in the additions are a workshops building, a restaurant, a student housing building, and housing for members of the school staff. A bridge is to be put up between the old and new site, which will create a safe passage above a busy street and will open space for a public plaza.

The entire project – currently under construction – should be completed in early 2011.
