Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces will add Taj Cape Town to its portfolio—the hotelier's 80th hotel and first in South Africa that features the work of local architect DHK and interiors by Singapore-based James Park Associates.

The 166-room property occupies a new 17-floor tower, along with two historic structures: the Temple Chambers, also known as the Board of Executors, which was built in 1890, and the South African Reserve Bank building, where the original marble columns, skylight, and lion medallions pressed into the ceilings remain. The tower rooms offer balconies and floor-to-ceiling views of Table Mountain or the city. The Taj Club floor offers business travelers a private lounge and butler service.

Culinary experiences include the three-level Mint, which has a show kitchen, floor-to-ceiling wine wall, and full-length sliding doors with views of St. George's Mall; Bombay Brasserie, modeled after its namesake London location; and the Twankey, a seafood and champagne bar. Jiva Spa, a fitness center, heated indoor pool, two saunas, business center, boardrooms, and banquet/meeting facilities round out the hotel's offerings.
