Four Seasons Coming to Downtown Denver

23 June, 2010

Denver is set to welcome a brilliant new Four Seasons Hotel this fall. The gorgeous facility will include a high-end restaurant, rooftop terrace, spa, and event space. Carney Logan Burke Architects and HKS designed the structure; while Bilkey Llinas Design crafted the interiors. Denis Mulhern acted as concept designer while Mauricio Salcedo, principal of Bilkey Llinas Design, was involved in planning and concept design and Jude Mulhern acted as lead designer for FF&E on the project.

The 45-story structure, located on Arapahoe Street at the heart of downtown Denver, houses 239 rooms that feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows for spectacular city views. Individual rooms meld with the natural beauty of the Colorado area; The design team used warm earth tones and natural wood and stone, paired with work by Colorado artists.

"We combined these elements with a crisp, streamlined design concept appropriate for an urban hotel. We feel the result is a room that guests will truly enjoy,” says Denis Mulhern, concept designer for the Four Seasons Denver and design director for the West Palm Beach office of Bilkey Llinas Design. “When we started designing this project, we wanted the hotel to have a strong sense of place, as well as reflecting the contemporary style that Bilkey projects are known for.”

The hotel includes a 2,500-sq.-ft. fitness center and over 9,000-sq.-ft. of healing and rejuvenation room at the spa.

Additionally, an outdoor terrace hosts over 60 indigenous trees and a pool surrounded by Colorado buff sandstone. The deck area will be available for private events, as will an additional 17,000-sq.-ft. of event space that includes the 5,200-sq.-ft. Grand Ballroom.

Executive chef Simon Purvis will direct the opening of the restaurant and bar, which plans to source local ingredients with selections from local microbreweries and wineries.
Mulhern says he is particularly pleased with the design. “There is a sense of drama with the open plan layout and high ceilings. The intimacy of the fireplace and the use of rich woods and dark stacked stones add to this feeling. The wine display is the focal point and the unifying element which links the bar to the restaurant, creating an immediate ambience from the moment of entry."

A defining feature of the hotel is its offer of Four Seasons Private Residences—102 one- to four-bedroom homes on its top floors for guests who never want to leave. These spaces are equipped with full kitchen, bath, and living areas, and will grant residents full access to the Four Seasons Hotel services.

"We were fortunate that our ideas were compatible with the owner's vision for the hotel and Four Seasons’ expectations for the project," concludes Denis Mulhern, "Overall we are delighted with the way the hotel has turned out."
