Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) has won the RIBA competition to design the new home for New Scotland Yard, London’s police headquarters. The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is relocating to the more modern and cost-efficient Curtis Green building, which AHMM will revamp to include an expansion, a new public entrance pavilion, and open public spaces.
The firm’s design aims to help the MPS to reconnect with the public while respecting the heritage of the Whitehall Conservation Area in which the building is located. The iconic revolving Scotland Yard sign, along with the Eternal Flame and Roll of Honor will be retained.
The MPS will work with AHMM to further develop the designs before submitting a planning application next year. Completion of the site is expected in 2015.
