Archtober, the fourth annual citywide Architecture and Design Month, will take place throughout New York City from October 1-31.
The event includes the Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF), which will unveil a world-premiere film on October 15, as well as a preview of the first Dwell on Design in New York on October 9-11. New housing initiatives in New York City, including Navy Green Supportive Housing and Archtober Building of the Day, will be discussed on October 18, and the Guggenheim will preview their Helsinki Museum Competition on October 15.
The key presenters on Archtober 2014 include Lance Jay Brown, the AIA New York 2014 president; Cynthia Kracauer; Mark Ginsberg, FAIA, of Architecture In Formation, designer of Navy Green; Kyle Bergman of the ADFF; the Guggenheim Helsinki; Michela O’Connor Abrams for Dwell on Design; and Rick Bell, executive director of AIA New York.
With 31 Building of the Day tours and scores of activities, lectures, films, installations and exhibitions, Archtober will celebrate the impact of design and draw both archi-tourists and city dwellers. The Pentagram-designed Archtober Lounge is located at the Center for Architecture, the official home of Archtober, throughout the month of October. At lunchtime every day of the month, ticketed guests will tour the Archtober Building of the Day, and the project architects will prepare podcasts for virtual tours.
