Dates have been set for the BMW Guggenheim Lab’s spring 2012 program in Berlin—the second stop along a nine-city tour. The 2,200-square-foot, open sided structure will touch down in the Prenzlauer Berg Complex in Berlin from May 24, 2012 to July 29, 2012 to continue “Confronting Comfort,” exploring the role of sustainability in the relationship between urban environments and the needs of its inhabitants.
The city’s Lab Team, who will develop the Berlin program, has also been named: Jose Gomez-Marquez, program director for the Innovations in International Health initiative at MIT and founder of LDTC+Labs; Carlo Ratti, a practicing architect and engineer in Italy; Berlin-based artist and psychologist Corinne Rose; and Australia-based Rachel Smith, transportation specialist and principal transport planner for AECOM.
Designed by Atelier Bow-Wow of Tokyo, the lab structure—dubbed a traveling toolbox by some—will once again host talks, public forums, and performances, as well as act as a community center. Following Berlin, the BMW Guggenheim Lab will head to Mumbai.
