Haworth took home the top prize at the 2013 Best of NeoCon competition for Bluescape, their collaborative digital workspace solution. Bluescape beat out hundreds of other products to be named Best of Competition and also garnered a Gold award in the Workplace Technologies category. The winners were announced at an awards breakfast on May 10, presented by Contract.
Bluescape is a cloud-based digital workspace that can be accessed simultaneously on high-definition screens and devices including, laptops, iPads, and smart phones. Users can share text, photos, videos and documents in a display reminiscent of a conference room bulletin board, but Bluescape allows for the work to be saved in real time, giving teams the ability to rewind and view the progression of their project.
During NeoCon, the product was displayed on 12 touchscreens that were integrated together to form one gargantuan workspace in Haworth’s showroom in The Merchandise Mart in Chicago. Attendees could interact with Bluescape’s 160 acres of digital space using touch functions similar to those used on smart phones and tablets.
“Bluescape was created to accelerate business results by enhancing innovation, strategizing, solving problems and sharing information in real time,” Scott Poulton, Bluescape Chief Executive Officer, said in a statement. “Through this new technology platform, decision-makers and product development teams are able to improve global communication and problem-solving with teams and executives around the world.”
Haworth designers first dreamt up the concept for Bluescape in 2006 when they created a “brainstorming room” during a review of their global seating portfolio. The designers realized that there redundancies and omissions when viewing information sequentially, and sought a workspace solution integrated within a single technology platform.
In 2010, Haworth teamed up with San Francisco-based tech company Obscura Digital to develop Bluescape and create a new jointly owned company of the same name. Bluescape is currently installed in Haworth’s showrooms in Chicago, San Francisco, and the company’s headquarters in Holland, Michigan.
“Haworth partners with its clients to create interiors that make their real estate more efficient and their workforce more effective and innovative,” Franco Bianchi, President and CEO of Haworth, said in a statement. “We accomplish this by applying our research and knowledge to interior components, furniture applications and, now more than ever before, technology solutions. Bluescape is our next platform.”
