28 April, 2014

-By Holly O'Dell

The Center for Active Design has named winners of its inaugural Excellence awards, which recognize the role of design in encouraging physical activity to combat obesity and chronic disease. A jury selected four winning projects and two honorable mentions, as well as a Leadership in Active Design Excellence award honoring an early adopter with a track record of active design implementation.

The selection criteria required built projects to be complete and to have implemented at least one of the center’s four active design categories: active transportation, active recreation, healthy food access, or active building.
