Retired soccer star David Beckham has unveiled details on a stadium for his expansion Major League Soccer franchise in Miami. Arquitectonica and 360 Architecture will design the open-air facility, which affords views of the downtown skyline from its location at PortMiami, the world’s busiest port for cruise ships.
Steep grandstands will mirror those found in European and South American soccer stadiums, while a curving metal canopy will pay homage to the 25,000-seat stadium’s Miami home.
The site plan also calls for a nightclub, terraces, a potential Beckham museum, and a plaza surrounded by a restaurants and retail outlets. A pedestrian park — formerly an unused drawbridge — would connect the plaza and stadium to the downtown area, according to the Miami Herald.
