North Zealand Hospital in Denmark has winnowed seven proposals down to three in its search for a new building design. The finalist teams include:
C. F Møller, Alectia, and Ramboll, who proposed a compact facility integrated into a hilly landscape. The jury also noted the project’s “clear functionality and a fine splitting of patient-related and technical administrative functions.”
Herzog & de Meuron and Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, lauded by the jury for their circle-shaped complex boasting a rooftop garden and sunny courtyards.
BIG, WHR Architects, and Arup, whose proposal “provides an easy floating architecture that is reminiscent of a resort,” according to the jury.
Hospital administrators will select the winning proposal in March 2014, with construction slated to begin in 2017 and finish in 2020.
