Toronto-based Diamond Schmitt Architects is designing a mixed-use building in downtown Buffalo, New York, that will house office space, a 120-room hotel, and retail. Blending the neighborhood’s historic and urban characteristics, the curvilinear façade will feature a replication of the ornate terra-cotta used on the 100-year-old building that formerly occupied the site.
Additional highlights of the 12-floor complex include a living wall in the four-story atrium, a courtyard at grade level, and a rooftop terrace. The building will target LEED certification through sustainable features such as solar shading devices and high-efficiency mechanical and electrical systems. Project completion is slated for summer 2015.
