Foster + Partners and Heller Manus Architects will join forces to design a mixed-use development in San Francisco’s Transbay Area. Known as First and Mission, the project will comprise an 850-foot hotel, residential, and office tower, along with another residential building.
Built with large floor plates to give tenants flexibility, the office tower will feature an open layout supported by an orthogonal structural system developed for seismic stability.
“At ground level, the buildings are open, accessible and transparent,” Norman Foster, founder and chairman of Foster + Partners, said in a statement. “Their base provides a new ‘urban room’ for the region, and the new pedestrian routes through the site will knit the new scheme with the urban grain of the city.”
