Fourteen Proposals Submitted for Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6

11 August, 2014

-By Erinn Waldo

Fourteen designs have been submitted for consideration for a development project at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6.

The first site is directly adjacent to One Brooklyn Bridge Park and can be up to 315 feet or about 31 stories with 290 apartments. Set back from the water, the second site can have a maximum height of 155 feet, or about 15 stories, with 140 residential units and ground-floor retail.

All of the proposed buildings are similarly sized, purportedly adhering to the park board’s height requirements. The proposals target the park’s goals, which are to reflect excellence and creativity in architecture; create scale and massing that enhances the surrounding context; create welcoming ground floors at the entrance to the park’s southern section; develop a streetscape that provides an enhanced pedestrian experience; and contribute to a sustainably built environment.

Firms vying for the design include Alloy Design + Bjarke Ingles Group; Asympote Architecture; BKSK + Aufgang; Davis Brody Bond; Future Expansion + SBN Architects; FXFOWLE Architects; H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture; Marvel Architects; Morris Adjmi Architects; NV/da + I’Neill McVoy Architects; Pelli Clarke Pelli; 29 Architecture; Selldorf Architects; and WASA Studio A.
