Architect Frank Gehry has received the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 2014, Spain’s top art and design prize. The jury granted the award to Gehry “for the relevance and impact of his creations in numerous countries, via which he has defined and furthered architecture in the past half century.”
His notable works in Spain include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Herederos del Marqués de Riscal winery in Elciego, and Barcelona’s Sagrera Tower.
“Spain holds an important place in my heart and in my personal history,” Gehry said in a statement. “Though I am from Canada and the U.S., I always feel at home in Spain. I am very gratified to be part of the legacy of this important award.”
