The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has announced the winners of its 2013 NeoCon East Booth Design Award Competition. Bentley earned honors in the large booth category, while METAL was named the best among small booths. The competition recognized show exhibitors’ design originality; visual impact; effective use of materials; and the outstanding use of space, color, texture, lighting, and graphics.
The judging panel included Alison Graham, IIDA, Gensler; Alison Kennedy, IIDA, Booz Allen Hamilton; and Nancy Wightman, IIDA, HDR Architects. Wightman commended Bentley for demonstrating “a solid theme and a great use of the space with a fantastic adaptation of their Western Collection,” she said in a statement. “The hanging ropes provided definition to the space while still allowing transparency.”
For the small booth category winner, Kennedy noted that “METAL's rustic quality, well-branded message and vertical design made them stand out in an unpretentious way. We were able to clearly see their story from the display only, and the open retail feel enveloped you in the industrial space with an extremely playful use of volume."
