Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, has selected Dutch architecture firm MVRDV to design an art depot called the Collection Building. Clad in reflective glass, the 161,000-sq.-ft. compact round structure will feature a route traversing the lobby, exhibition space equipped with moving storage racks, and individual depots, ending on the rooftop. Here, visitors will have access to a restaurant; sculpture garden; additional exhibition space; and Futuro, the flying saucer-shaped house designed by Finish architect Matti Suuronen.
In addition to the public spaces, the building will feature room for private art collections where owners can view their pieces in an exclusive setting.
The museum is targeting completion in 2017.
