Steelcase Inc. has appointed James P. Keane as its new CEO. Keane, currently president and chief operating officer for the office furniture manufacturer, succeeds James P. Hackett in March 2014.
“Throughout his 16 years at the company, Jim has proven to be a strong leader with a passion for winning and a deep understanding of the business,” Rob Pew, Steelcase board chair, said in a statement. “His creativity and strategic execution make him a great steward of the Steelcase legacy and the right choice to lead Steelcase into a future of continued growth and tremendous technological change.”
Keane was appointed president in April 2013. Previously, he served as president of the Steelcase Group in the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa, before which his roles included chief financial officer and head of research and development.
After he steps down in February 2014, Hackett will take a new position as vice chair for an additional year and also will remain on the board of directors.
