Showcasing a design by Studio Fuksas, Terminal 3 at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport has opened for travelers. Reminiscent of a manta ray, the nearly mile-long structure features honeycomb-shaped metal and glass panels through which abundant natural light flows into the concourse. Roof spans stretch up to 262 feet.
Architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas envisioned a terminal that expressed fluidity but also pause. The duo’s design takes into account airline travel necessities such as processing times, walking distances, ease of orientation, crowding, and availability of desired amenities.
White conical supporting columns rise to touch the soaring roof, while stainless steel finishes reflect the honeycomb patterns from above. The honeycomb motif also appears throughout the interiors, from the retail boxes to 3D imprints in the wallcoverings.
