NeoCon East Opens Registration and Announces Keynote Presentations

Keynote speakers Todd Bertsch, Betsy Nurse, and Jake Barton

Registration has opened for the 13th Annual NeoCon® East design show and conference program, which will feature more than 25 CEU–accredited programs and keynote addresses presented by Todd Bertsch, AIA, vice president and director of design at HOK Atlanta; Betsy Nurse, ASID, IIDA, vice president and interior design director at HOK Atlanta; and Jake Barton, principal and founder of New York–based Local Projects.

Geared toward architects, designers, and facility managers affiliated with General Services Administration (GSA), the show will take place October 28–29 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. For the past 12 years, the show was hosted in Baltimore, but it has been relocated to reach a larger audience.

Bertsch and Nurse will kick off the show together with a presentation based on their experiences with high-profile clients, such as Porsche Cars North America for whom they recently designed a new headquarters. Barton’s presentation will follow on the second day.

Bertsch possesses more than 22 years of industry experience across multiple markets, including corporate, hospitality, government, education, and research. Specializing in sustainable design, he also works extensively with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and previously served on the Advisory Board of the Center for Building Sciences & Performance. When he’s not working with HOK, Bertsch is a contributing member of Atlanta’s High Museum of Art and a patron member for the Atlanta Contemporary Arts Center. Bertsch earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1987.

Nurse has worked in the interior architecture industry as a designer, project manager, and principal for 18 years. In addition to her role as vice president and director of interior design, she serves as HOK’s Southeast regional strategic account lead. Nurse’s experience has led her to work with several associations and entities, including CoreNet Global’s Atlanta Chapter Board, Corporate Real Estate Women’s Atlanta, the Atlanta Chapter of International Facilities Management Association, the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors, and the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. Nurse holds a bachelor’s degree in interior design and visual arts from Florida State University.

A leading authority in the field of interaction design for physical spaces, Barton and his firm specialize in media design work for museums and public spaces. Local Projects worked alongside Layman Design and Thinc Design as lead exhibition designers for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. The firm has also completed past projects for StoryCorps, the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the National Museum of American Jewish History, and the Official New York City Visitors Information Center.

This year, more than 250 companies will present innovative products, designs, and resources conceived for the commercial interiors market, which includes workplace, healthcare, education, public space, hospitality, retail, and government sectors.

For the first time, NeoCon® East will be co-hosted with AIA Philadelphia’s 13th Annual Design on the Delaware Conference, which focuses on issues and opportunities related to the built environment via 30 programs, three general sessions, and 15 tours.
